Brazil Struggling To Compete Thanks To Government, Corruption

Maybe on the soccer field — wait, I’m sorry — the football pitch — they can compete. But in the global market place, when it comes to taxation and labor and logistics, Brazil ranks just below tiny Albania and one notch above Montenegro. Tuesday’s release of the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report showed that Latin America’s once mighty commodity-rich economy has fallen. Six points in fact. The good news is, that it is still more competitive than Argentina. Brazil ranks 81 out of 138 nations. Argentina is a woeful 104. Brazil’s top problems contributing to it losing whatever little competitive edge it had: taxes, corruption, government and…labor. Call it the “custo Brasil” like ...
