Are Christian economists aware that absolute poverty rates in the world have fallen swiftly in the past four decades? To read some of them, you would have to conclude that the vast majority of people in the world are poorer than they were in 1980. Furthermore, they claim that trade causes poverty despite the fact that some of the poorest countries in the world have benefited greatly from trade and capital investment, especially after the collapse of European communism in 1990.
Unfortunately, the faculty at many Christian colleges are stuck in a 1970s time warp and their thinking has not advanced since so-called experts claimed that the world would collapse by 2000 unless there was massive state takeover of the economy and population suppression became mandated. Facts don't matter, only the old narratives.
