Como mais regulamentações provocam mais risco

The Dodd-Frank Act versus the Rule of Law

October 9, 2012
In response to the 2008 financial collapse, Congress passed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Dodd-Frank increased regulation of banks, stockbrokers, insurers and other financial institutions that are "too big -- or interconnected -- to fail" and that could require a government bailout to prevent a banking system collapse, says Roger Koppl, a professor of economics and finance in the Silberman College of Business and director of the Institute for Forensic Science Administration at Fairleigh Dickinson University, and a senior fellow with the National Center for Policy Analysis.
The Act created a board -- the Financial Stability Oversight Council -- composed mostly of the heads of various federal financial regulatory agencies, including some newly created agencies. The Council has the responsibility to identify institutions whose failure might create systemic distress -- and the discretion to impose "prudential" regulations on them different from the regulations imposed on other financial institutions.

America vs China: “Free Trade Is Only for Friends,” Says Prof. D’Aveni

China is the second biggest economy in the world and has been the engine for global growth. But now China is expected to grow at its slowest rate in 13 years, dragging down the rest of Asia with it. The IMF, in its global forecast today said China's growth will slow to 7.8 percent and won't return to double digits anytime soon.
Still China will remain a key competitor to the U.S.—the largest economy in the world — and a trading enemy, says to Dartmouth Professor Richard D'Aveni.
He says the U.S. is in an economic cold war with China that it could potentially lose because U.S. free trade policy can't compete with China's state-sponsored capitalism.

Potencial inflacionário cresce no Brasil

Relatório de BCB
As operações de crédito do sistema financeiro
registraram expansão moderada no trimestre encerrado em
julho. O segmento de crédito direcionado registrou dinamismo
mais acentuado – em particular, crédito habitacional e
financiamentos do BNDES destinados à infraestrutura – do

The Economist writes
".. things are looking up for Mexico across all three of Robert Solow’s measures. Firstly, high manufacturing costs in China are improving the competitiveness and demand-environment for Mexican factories. Secondly, Brazil may have become too dependent on commodity-led growth. While moving resources to the commodity sector allowed Brazil to exploit a comparative advantage, many now see limited opportunity to improve total factor productivity, something which is usually limited to manufacturing. And although Brazil enjoyed a strong reforming government led by Hernando Cardozo in the 1990s, the last decade has been one of increasing welfare costs rather than additional reform. In Mexico by contrast, a newly reinstated PRI, a centre-right party, has promised to continue along the path of supply-side reform pursued by the previous government.

Crescimento econômico - Brasil e Mexico

Will Brazil remain the country of the future?

THE question of whether the Mexican economy might one day regain the top spot in the Latin American league tables has once again become an interesting one. In 2010, many thought it had been settled. The Brazilian economy, more than double the size of Mexico’s, grew at a 7.5% annual rate while Mexico puttered forward at close to 2%. What a difference two years makes. While the Brazilian economy is shambling along at an annualised rate of 1.9% so far in 2012, the Mexican economy is set to grow at 3.9%. If this trend continues, some reckon the Mexican economy will overtake Brazil’s as soon as 2022.
One believer is Benito Berber, Nomura’s Latin America strategist. In a recent report Mr Berber applies Solow growth accounting to a series of forecasts on Mexico and Brazil, with striking results:

Top Five Personality Traits Employers Hire Most

Professionalism (86%), high-energy (78%) and confidence (61%) are the top three traits employers say they are looking for in new hires. Kathy Harris, managing director of Manhattan-based executive search firm Harris Allied says these first-impression traits are the most critical for employers to prepare for as they all can be evaluated by a recruiter or hiring manager within the first 30 seconds of meeting a candidate.

O PIB nominal como meta da política monetária

The Fallacy of Nominal GDP Targeting

"...  Münchau is an advocate of nominal GDP targeting, the new fad in monetary central planning. There is allegedly nothing wrong with monetary policy. The central bankers only need a new target, and, naturally, a more comprehensive one. The trained mathematician Münchau lectures us how this works:
“This is a debate about nominal income targeting, where a central bank no longer stabilises the inflation rate directly but focuses instead on stabilising nominal gross domestic product. You can think of nominal GDP as the sum of real GDP and inflation. If real growth falls, the central bank would thus have to drive up inflation. Conversely, if real growth rises, the central bank would have to bear down on inflation much harder than it would do under the pure inflation targeting regime used by central banks such as the ECB.”
There is a dangerous naivete about all of this, a blindness toward real-life complexity. There is also a kind of narrow-mindedness, of which Münchau accuses the central bank critics, but of which he himself is the prime example. Münchau and other advocates of GDP-targeting are consistent macro-economists, which means they necessarily ignore many important micro-economic phenomena.
Here is the prime fallacy behind the nominal GDP target and, in fact, all of Münchaus’ argument: It tacitly assumes that money is neutral, which money never is. Let me explain..."
