O "capitalismo" americano, o "comunismo" chinês e o "socialismo" brasileiro

Um em seis Americanos recebe suporte de uns dos varios programas contra a pobreza, incluindo "food stamps", quais hoje inclui 40 milhões pessoas;
a maior empresa do mundo é o militar Americano;

Note que estas observações estão tendências recentes. A prognóstica das consequências é obvia. O governo Americano fala "capalismo" é pratica socialismo. Os Chineses falam "comunismo" é praticam capitalismo quase puro. O governo brasileiro anuncia "socialismo" e pratica livre mercado.

More than 50 million Americans are on Medicaid, the federal-state program aimed principally at the poor, a survey of state data by USA TODAY shows. That's up at least 17% since the recession began in December 2007…
USA Today,
"... More than 40 million people get food stamps, an increase of nearly 50% during the economic downturn, according to government data through May. The program has grown steadily for three years…
Close to 10 million receive unemployment insurance, nearly four times the number from 2007. Benefits have been extended by Congress eight times beyond the basic 26-week program, enabling the long-term unemployed to get up to 99 weeks of benefits. Caseloads peaked at nearly 12 million in January —…
More than 4.4 million people are on welfare, an 18% increase during the recession…
As caseloads for all the programs have soared, so have costs. The federal price tag for Medicaid has jumped 36% in two years, to $273 billion. Jobless benefits have soared from $43 billion to $160 billion. The food stamps program has risen 80%, to $70 billion. Welfare is up 24%, to $22 billion. Taken together, they cost more than Medicare.

A medicina de Keynes (vs. Hayek)

1. A medicina do Dr. Keynes:
The overweight gentleman sauntered across the street, where he found the office of Dr. Keynes. He told the new doctor about his acute chest pain and lack of appetite, and complained about the previous doctor’s “heartless” prescription. After a cursory examination, Dr. Keynes rendered his diagnosis: the patient’s condition did not stem from the fact that his gigantic frame was causing undo strain on his heart; instead, the doctor concluded, the patient’s chest pain was merely causing a temporary lack of hunger. Furthermore, Dr. Keynes argued, the stress of cutting weight at the present time would certainly prove detrimental to the man’s already weak heart. Therefore, his prescription was for the 500lb man to each as much as possible, as quickly as possible. Anything less might cause the man to suffer a heart attack, he noted. Now the doctor did concede that, at some point in the distant future, it might be a good idea for the man to shed a few pounds. But for the present, the most important thing to do would be to consume as much as he could stomach.
The patient left Dr. Keynes’ office with a broad smile. After gorging at an all-you-can-eat buffet, he momentarily forgot about his chest pain. It looked like he had found his solution; except, a week later, he died.
2. A medicina do Dr. Hayek
A morbidly obese gentleman labored into Dr. Hayek’s office suffering from severe chest pain. The patient also complained that he was unable to consume his usual 10,000 calorie-per-day diet; in fact, he was feeling so sick that he could barely scarf down 9,000 calories. He plead that his love for food remained as strong as ever, but his body just wasn’t keeping up with his demands.
After having a thorough look at the patient, the good doctor could not find anything wrong outside of the patient’s extreme portliness. After a moment of reflection, he delivered to his patient a troubling diagnosis. He explained that the chest pain stemmed from the strain the patient’s 500lb body was putting on his heart, and that the lack of appetite was his body’s attempt to protect itself from this imbalance. Dr. Hayek’s prescription was simple: the patient had to dramatically reduce his consumption while undertaking a moderate exercise program, with the goal of losing 250lbs as quickly and safely as possible. Dr. Hayek was aware that it would be a physically painful and emotionally difficult process for the man, but it was the only way to avert a life of suffering – or even a heart attack.

Desenvolvimento econômico e preferência de tempo

“…. (T)he process of economic development is essentially determined by time preference… nature-given resources or technological know-how can only have an economic impact if discovered and utilized. To do his, though, there must be prior savings and investment. It is not the availability of resources and technical or scientific knowledge that imposes limits of economic advancement: rather, it is time preference that imposes limits on the exploitation of actually available resources as well as on the utilization of  existing knowledge (and also on scientific progress for that matter, insofar as research activities, too, must be supported by saved-up funds).” p 151

O economista

J. M. Keynes

Como a natureza limpa o mar

Where is all the oil? Nearly two weeks after BP finally capped the biggest oil spill in U.S. history, the oil slicks that once spread across thousands of miles of the Gulf of Mexico have largely disappeared. Nor has much oil washed up on the sandy beaches and marshes along the Louisiana coast...
Perhaps the most important cause of the oil’s disappearance, some researchers suspect, is that the oil has been devoured by microbes. The lesson from past spills is that the lion’s share of the cleanup work is done by nature in the form of oil-eating bacteria and fungi. The microbes break down the hydrocarbons in oil to use as fuel to grow and reproduce. A bit of oil in the water is like a feeding frenzy, causing microbial populations to grow exponentially...

Sobre Keynes e os Keynesianos

Niall Ferguson: "... It was said of the Bourbons that they forgot nothing and learned nothing. The same could easily be said of some of today’s latter-day Keynesians. They cannot and never will forget the policy errors made in the US in the 1930s. But they appear to have learned nothing from all that has happened in economic theory since the publication of their bible, John Maynard Keynes’s The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, in 1936...
Those economists, like New York Times columnist Paul Krugman, who liken confidence to an imaginary “fairy” have failed to learn from decades of economic research on expectations. They also seem not to have noticed that the big academic winners of this crisis have been the proponents of behavioural finance, in which the ups and downs of human psychology are the key..."

O Brasil é atrasado para a copa 2014?

The Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will be central to the 2014 World Cup, but construction has stalled on other projects.

JOHANNESBURG – As South Africa receives pats on the back from around the globe after hosting, against the odds, a mightily successful and historic World Cup, the soccer world’s gaze instinctively turns to the next time around.
And it doesn’t make for pretty viewing.
Brazil has been selected as the host nation for the 2014 World Cup and possesses such deep-rooted passion for soccer that it is a genuine part of the national identity. But the South American country has drastic problems that are threatening to turn preparations for the tournament into a farce.

Paul ganha a copa

Eight picks, eight correct, eight tentacles. Paul the Oracle Octopus is clearly the biggest winner of the World Cup after recording a perfect prognostication record whether he knows it or not (he probably doesn't).The big question was whether Paul's predictive superpowers would translate to the final - the first match he was asked to predict that did not involve his native Germany. But such piddly concerns did not bother Paul. Mostly because he's an octopus. Just as he predicted, the European champions Spain became world champions for the first time with an Andres Iniesta goal in extra time. And as the Spanish celebrated, Paul floated in his tank, sure of his genius and probably craving a fresh clam.Since Paul is an international celebrity of the highest order now, everyone wants a piece of him - both literally and figuratively. Italy is trying to claim that he was caught in Italian waters, Spanish businessmen are trying to buy him for €30,000 ($38,000), and Dutch priests tried to dismiss him.
But in Spain, Paul is an icon. The Spanish prime minister has already spoken of his desire to protect "Pulpo Paul" and the mock up of a new version of Spain's flag could be dangerously close to becoming real.So what becomes of Paul now? Well, he'll probably continue to live out the remainder of his days at the Sea Life aquarium in Oberhausen, Germany, no longer forced to pick his food out of flag-covered boxes while surrounded by an obscene number of media types. He will swim at his leisure and continue to be oblivious to the existence of sports. He will retire a winner and a global sensation - what every other octopus (and even a few pundits) wishes they could be. All hail Paul. Fonte

Fim da tranqüilidade

"... Brazil’s bid to wean itself off floating-rate debt, a legacy of 1990s hyperinflation, is faltering as the central bank boosts benchmark borrowing costs from a record low.
The percentage of the government’s 1.59 trillion reais ($896 billion) of debt that was issued at yields tied to the overnight lending rate, known as Selic, climbed to 33.6 percent in May from a record low of 30.7 percent in 2007, according to the Treasury. The increase snaps a decade-long decline that cut the percentage from 62 percent in 1998 and helped the country win investment-grade credit ratings.
The rise in floating-rate debt, which became popular two decades ago when annual inflation climbed above 1,000 percent, may slow Brazil’s efforts to win further rating increases, said Mauro Leos, who heads the Latin America sovereign ratings group at Moody’s Investors Service..."

Controvérsias macroeconômicas atual no Brasil

Keynes sobre inflação, moeda e déficits fiscais

"...Keynes (1919 [1971], pp. 144, 149) laid responsibility for the inflation at the door of the “belligerent governments” during the war, most of whom were continuing to monetize their debts, rather than to pay for their expenditure by raising taxes or issuing loans. Whether due to “necessity or incompetence,” it was a policy which “a Bolshevist might have done by design.” The problem with ongoing inflation was that, with the arbitrary “rearrangement of riches” and wild fluctuations in prices it brought, confidence in the credit system would collapse, thereby undermining the “ultimate foundation of capitalism.” The disintegration would be
accelerated by the way that governments were attacking “profiteers” in an attempt to shift the blame for the inflation: “These ‘profiteers’ are, broadly speaking, the entrepreneur class of capitalists, that is to say, the active and constructive element in the whole capitalist society, who in a period of rapidly rising prices cannot help but get rich quick whether they wish it or desire it or not.” The European situation was now dire. Facing starvation, “Men will not always die quietly . . . in their distress [they] may overturn the remnants of organisation, and submerge civilisation itself.”
.. In the Economic Consequences, Keynes (1919 [1971], p. 160) was more sanguine, arguing that there was not “the slightest possibility of catastrophe or any serious likelihood of a general upheaval of society” in Britain. Keynes was, however, a vehement supporter of the increases in interest rates the Bank of England implemented in November 1919 and April 1920 (Moggridge, 1992, pp. 354–60). Indeed, when consulted by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in February 1920, Keynes (1920 [1977], p. 184) argued for an even tighter monetary policy, on the ground that continuing high inflation would “strike at the whole basis of contract, of security, and of the capitalist system generally.” As Donald Moggridge (1992, p. 359)  subsequently observed in his biography of Keynes, the “argument was that of the author of the Economic Consequences.”

Macro III - Prova 3

I.                    Senhoriagem

Aprendizagem
Limites da sintonia fina e controle ótimo
Interações estratégicas
Inconsistência temporal
Independência e autonomia do Banco Central
Ciclo econômico político
Restrições fiscais e interesses políticos

III.
Receita monetarista
Agregados monetários
Controle da massa monetária
Controle da taxa de juros
Metas da inflação
Inflation targeting (Metas de inflação)

^            ^    ^
M = π + y – V

Com var % de V = 0
       ^    ^
π = M – y

A Regra de Taylor
it = i* + a(πt – π*) – b(ut – un)
Com i* = r + π*

Bt – B t-1 = rB t-1 + (Gt – Tt)
reformulando:
Bt = (1 +r)B t-1 + Gt – Tt

Coeficiente de endividamento
(Bt/Y) = (1 + r - g) (Bt-1/Yt-1) + (Gt – Tt/Yt)
